WhatsApp Business account

The WhatsApp Business account is a company's official presence on WhatsApp and comes in two forms: the WhatsApp Business app, free and designed for manual management from a single main device, and the WhatsApp Business Platform (API), designed for software integrations, automations and high volumes. On the API, business numbers are grouped in a WABA, the WhatsApp Business Account.

The choice between app and API depends on volume and processes. The WhatsApp Business app suits a single business with manual management: profile, labels, quick replies, one main device. The Business Platform is for when conversations need to be shared among multiple agents, automated with bots and AI, integrated with management systems and used for large-scale campaigns: it has no app of its own, it is used through software connected via API.

In the Business Platform the hierarchy is: the Meta business portfolio, inside which lives the WABA, which in turn contains one or more phone numbers with their profile, quality rating and messaging tier. Templates belong to the WABA and are used on its numbers. A number active on the API can't be simultaneously registered on the app: migration between the two modes is possible but must be planned.
