Dedicated WhatsApp number

A dedicated WhatsApp number is the phone line registered exclusively on a business's Business API: a number can only be connected to one environment at a time, so it can't work on the app and the API simultaneously. It can be a mobile, landline or virtual number, as long as it can receive the verification code via SMS or call.

During onboarding, the number is verified with a code and associated with the business's WABA in Business Manager. From that moment messages go through the API: any pre-existing app account is deactivated and the local history doesn't migrate, so it's wise to export it first. Landline numbers with phone verification can also be used — a common solution to give the WhatsApp channel the same number as the company switchboard.

The number is a strategic asset: it accumulates history, recognition in address books, quality rating and, with verification, the brand's display name. That's why it should be registered to the business and not the provider, so it can be migrated between platforms or BSPs without losing it. Meta allows multiple numbers on the same WABA, useful for different branches, departments or markets; each number keeps independent messaging limits and rating.

SendApp Official registers the dedicated number on a WABA owned by the customer, who remains the owner and free to migrate; the connection is guided step by step by the platform.
