WhatsApp Marketing Glossary

Media messages

Media messages are WhatsApp messages that contain media instead of or in addition to text: images, videos, PDF documents, audio and voice notes. In marketing they serve to show products, send catalogs and price lists, confirm orders with attached receipts. Via the API, media is sent by uploading the file or pointing to its public URL, including within approved templates.

Each format has a job: the image shows the product and stops the scroll; the video demonstrates and tells a story in seconds; the PDF carries price lists, menus, quotes and receipts with a professional look; audio adds a personal register text doesn't have. On WhatsApp, media lands in the same conversation as the text, so the catalog, the confirmation and the customer's question live in a single thread.

The practical care points: file size and format must respect the channel's limits, images should be prepared for mobile viewing, and every media item should travel with a text that clarifies context and expected action. Via the API the file is passed as a public URL or a direct upload; in templates, the media header pairs with the text body and its variables. Media received from customers, photos and documents, is worth as much as what you send.

From SendApp you send images, videos, documents and voice notes in conversations and campaigns; files are hosted on a CDN and arrive as native WhatsApp media.
